Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League dreams were once again crushed by Real Madrid, as the Reds were forced out of the Round of 16 on Wednesday, 15 March.
Just one goal from Madrid’s Karim Benzema sealed the Los Blancos’ (The Whites) sailing victory in the coveted football league.
Madrid, went into the second leg of the fixture against the English Football club with a 5-2 aggregate advantage.
Liverpool looked to end their Champion’s League curse against Real Madrid, but even with a number of attempts, the Spanish giants proved to be tactically stronger.
Jurgen Klopp, the Reds’ manager, veered out of his usual 4-3-3 formation and set his team up in a very offensive 4-2-4 layout.
Pitting Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota in the deep middle to move as central forwards to create space in a 10 playmaker move.
But, Real’s pressing play meant Liverpool fell short and couldn’t get on the scoreboard.
That ends Liverpool’s hopes of silverware this season, with the English side hoping to make Top 4 in the English Premier League.
Real Madrid move on to the Champions League Quarter Finals in a bid to contend once again for the title they still hold, Champions of Europe.
