One of the biggest fixtures in the English Premier League ended in a humiliating 7-0 defeat, with Liverpool showing arch rivals Manchester United no mercy at home.
Anfield came alive after newly signed Cody Gakpo scored an outstanding opening goal. It was downhill from there for Erik ten Hag’s overly confident side, when the Reds’ Darwin Nunez hit the back of the net just 4-minutes later.
Gakpo made it 3-0 within 6-minutes, which was followed by two goals by Mohammad Salah, another brilliant finish by Nunez and a final flourish by Roberto Firmino.
It was a poetic goal for Firmino who just announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The two goals meant Salah overtook previous top Liverpool goal scorer Robbie Fowler.
With 129 goals, Salah now holds the title of top Liverpool goal scorer in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s relentless victory sealed the Reds’ hopes for a Top 4 finish, with one game in hand.
While the 7-0 margin has also firmly been rooted in history for both Liverpool and Manchester United, Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp said the team’s focus is never on the score.
“We showed tonight what we could be, what we can be and what we have to be from now on. We don’t talk about the scoreline, we just talk about the performance.”

Klopp had been heavily criticised after what is being touted as one of the worst season’s his club has had under his tenure.
Signing Nunez and Gakpo was also not received well by many who felt that Liverpool had lost their spark after letting Senegalese striker, Sadio Mane go at the end of last season.
But, Klopp has renewed hopes of a dynamic winning combination in Salah, Gakpo and Nunez.
