A Limpopo farmer has been released on bail after shooting at a couple he “mistakenly” thought were hippos.
Paul Hendricks was arrested on Tuesday for shooting at a couple who were fishing at Mogol River, Limpopo.
The 77-year old claimed he was shooting at the hippos along the river.
A 38-year old woman was shot and injured in the incident. Her partner managed to escape unharmed when he hid.
He immediately informed police and emergency services who arrived on the scene.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.
Hendricks was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Police seized two rifles, one revolver, one pistol and two airguns during his arrest. The Limpopo farmer, who is a pensioner was released on bail of R 1000 on Thursday and his case postponed to 18 May.
