Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi paid a visit Tsakane Secondary School, in Brakpan on Monday, after a learner was allegedly beaten to death.
An inquest into the learner’s death has been opened but police don’t have sufficient evidence to make any arrests.
It is however alleged that the Grade 10 learner was beaten by a teacher and security guard at the school.
Nhlanhla Tshabalala who was 15-years old succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.
According to reports the boy did not attend Tsakane Secondary School, he attended the neighbouring Reshogofaditswe Secondary School.
He went to the school to retrieve his cellphone and schoolbag which was confiscated by the guard the day before.
Tshabalala went to visit his girlfriend who attended Tsakane Secondary School.
The boy’s family are demanding answers and were told police were still gathering evidence and were trying to obtain videos from witnesses.
Lesufi also visited the home of the learner to meet with his parents and family.
This is a developing story.
