Large parts of Johannesburg are without power on Tuesday, 22 August, due to the loss of an 88KV line.
This is according to City Power who say the outage is due to a loss of an 88KV that feeds the Hursthill substation.
Areas that are affected by the outage include:
- Auckland Park
- Brixton
- Coronationville
- Melville
- Albertville
- Newlands
- Newclare
- Greymont

City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena says operators are on site to investigate and will communicate with customers as soon as the fault is identified.
“We woke up this morning with a major outage from Hursthill Substation where we lost an 88 KV Line.
That line is off causing a widespread outages affecting several areas including Auckland Park, Brixton, Melville, Westdene, Newlands, Newclear, Sophiatown and surrounding areas.
We have dispatched operators to two substations that are interlinked to investigate the cause of the outage. The time of restoration will be communicated as soon as the cause of the outage has been identified.”
