The family of Khaya Magadla can finally find closure after his body was found 20 days after he fell into a manhole in Dlamini, Soweto.
Khaya’s body was found at the Eldorado Park wastewater plant on Saturday, 02 July.
While the family is said to be relieved that his body was found, they are calling for more to be done to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
The community have rallied behind the family to put pressure on the City of Jo’burg to seal all exposed manholes.
An extensive search of over 20km of pipes went on for almost 3-weeks before Khaya Magadla’s body was retrieved.
A team of 35 EMS officials, search technicians, the water unit, K-9 unit, air wing, and 60 members of Joburg Water were dedicated to the search for the 6-year old.
Preparations for Khaya’s funeral will take place as soon as results from his post-mortem is complete.
