Kenny Kunene ordered to apologise to Malema for calling him a “cockroach”.
When he also called Malema “a cockroach” and “a small frog” in November 2021, Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kunene was convicted guilty of hate speech by the high court in Johannesburg.
The court required Kunene to publicly apologize to Malema without reservation and to retract the original statement.
He has to issue the apology within 30 days.
Kunene is further interdicted and restrained from publishing, propagating, advocating or communicating hate speech as defined by the Equality Act.
In an interview with eNCA in November 2021, Malema said he would sue Kunene. For the insults, he demanded Kunene pay R1 million.

When discussing coalition talks on television, Kunene threatened to:
“Deal with this little frog” in reference to Malema.
“Julius is just an irritating cockroach that now I must deal with publicly.”
“Julius is a criminal and I’m going to show South Africans the crimes he has been involved in. I’m going to tell South Africans why I left the EFF because of this cockroach. So, I’m going to deal with this cockroach because we have given him time and respect,” he added.
