PSL outfit Kaizer Chiefs shared in a statement that they are “saddened to hear of the passing of former player Frank ‘Jingles’ Pereira on Sunday, September 3, at the age of 77.”
Pareira, fondly known as Jingles, donned the Amakhosi jersey between 1979 and 1983, contributing immensely to the club’s success during those years.
Pareira’s professional career began at Vaal United in 1963, and he later joined Powerlines, Highlands Park, Jewish Guild, and Cape Town City before joining Chiefs. His move to Cape Town City from Jewish Guild made him the most expensive player in South Africa at the time.

He arrived at Chiefs midway through the season and was part of the Amakhosi team that won four trophies in 1981. In his four years as a Chiefs player, he helped the club win 10 trophies, including a league title in 1979.
Frank Pereira was originally from the Portuguese island of Madeira and came to South Africa at an early age. He was a successful businessman who ran a company that manufactured various paper goods.
The club passed on its heartfelt condolences to the Pareira family on behalf of Chairman Dr. Kaier Motaung.
