
Kabelo Gwamanda elected as mayor of the City of Johannesburg.
Kabelo Gwamanda, an Al Jama’ah councilour, has been chosen as the city of Johannesburg’s new executive mayor.
Gwamanda received the backing of the ANC, EFF and minority parties.
He replaces former mayor Thapelo Amad, also of Al Jama-ah, who resigned a few weeks ago.
Funzi Ngobeni of ActionSA and Mpho Phalatse lost to Gwamanda by 139 votes.

After failing to elect a new mayor earlier this week, the metropolitan municipality called a special meeting in the City of Joburg Council Chamber on Friday.
Gwamanda has indicated that he will use the State of the City address to detail the plans of the Government of Local Unity which include the ANC, EFF, ATM, AIC, COPE, GOOD, PAC, UDM.
