Johannesburg has been ranked No.13 as the riskiest cities for tourists according to a recent survey by Longwoods International which has been published in Forbes Advisor.
The survey compared 60 international cities across seven key metrics and rated cities out of a score of 100.
Some of the metrics included crime and personal security risk, health security risk, infrastructure security risk and digital security risk.
Johannesburg received a score of 77.53 out of 100 and ranked high for digital security, health and personal security risk factors.
Top 5 Most Risky Cities For Tourists
- Caracas, Venezuela: Caracas has the highest health security risk, the highest crime risk and the worst travel safety rating from the State Department.
- Karachi, Pakistan: Karachi has the highest personal security risk, the second worst travel safety rating from the State Department and the fourth highest infrastructure security risk.
- Yangon, Myanmar: Yangon has the highest digital security risk, the third highest personal security risk and the third highest health security risk.
- Lagos, Nigeria: Lagos has the highest infrastructure security risk, the second highest health security risk and the second highest personal security risk.
- Manila, Philippines: Manila has the highest natural disaster risk, the fifth highest personal security risk and the seventh highest health security risk.
In stark contrast Singapore was ranked as the safest city for tourists with a score of 0 out of 100 for a number of factors including the lowest likelihood for a natural disaster to occur.
Singapore also has a low health security risk, as well as the safest digital space with citizens using the internet freely without fear of privacy violations, identity theft and online attacks.
