Johannesburg residents are dealing with more water challenges on Tuesday, 05 March as repairs to the Eikenhof substation commences.
This after lightning struck the Eikenhof pump station over the weekend, resulting in a widespread water outage affecting most parts of the city from Friday evening, 01 March.
On Monday, 04 March many areas were still experiencing low water pressure, while some taps were dry altogether.
In a statement, JHB Water said City Power was conducting emergency repairs to a feedboard at the Eikenhof substation after one of the isolaters experienced a “flash-over.”
The flash-over occured at 20h00 on Monday night and affects the dedicated transformer supplying power to Rand Water Board pump station.
This means Rand Water is currently unable to pump water because there is no alternative supply available.
Affected areas are predominantly the same as those affected from the lightning strike and can be found below.
City Power teams are said to be on-site working on solutions and will need to dismantle the feederboard where the flash-over occurred to commence repairs and pressure test before attempting to restore the water supply.
The repairs are expected to last until Tuesday evening.
