Inmate Martin Jackson was apprehended by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) after he broke out of the Boksburg Correctional Facility on Wednesday.
Jackson was serving a 20-year prison sentence. He was sentenced for robbery, theft, and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo verified this, stating that the department is looking into what caused Jackson to flee.
Jackson will be charged with more crimes in relation to his escape, according to Nxumalo.
“The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirms that Martin Jackson has successfully been apprehended and returned to custody. This swift apprehension demonstrates the department’s commitment in ensuring that all inmates serve their sentences as mandated by the courts,”
“The [DCS] is conducting a full investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the escape. And to prevent future incidents. The inmate will now face additional criminal charges related to the escape,”
“The escape incident occurred on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. [It occurred] under circumstances currently under investigation,”
“Correctional services is working with other law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the escapee,” said Nxumalo.
