South African musician Lady Du has announced the heartbreaking news of her father, DJ Choc Ngwenya’s passing.
In a statement shared on social media, Lady Du and her family expressed their deep sorrow and respect for the late DJ, describing him as a pioneer, storyteller, and a pillar of the music industry.
“A pioneer, a storyteller, and a pillar of the music community, DJ Choc’s influence stretched across generations and genres. His passion, creativity, and commitment to uplifting South African sound and culture will be remembered forever. He leaves behind a powerful legacy in the industry—and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him,” the statement reads.
The Ngwenya family has asked for privacy as they navigate this difficult time, thanking the public for the outpouring of love, support, and tributes they have received.
Funeral and memorial service details will be announced in due course.
“May his soul rest in power,” the statement concluded.
In a heartfelt post, Lady Du reflected on her grief, describing this as the most difficult period of her life.
“Day 3 of the hardest days of my life. Baba, we had grown so close. God, why would you hurt me like this?” she shared.
She went on to thank everyone for their ongoing messages of support.
Lady Du also acknowledged that she would need time to heal, asking for understanding and patience.
“I’m struggling right now. I won’t be myself for a while. Please understand and respect that. ❤️❤️❤️ God bless you. Cherish and love your families — we are living on borrowed time,” she wrote.
