The Investigating Directorate (ID) refutes a report by the Sunday World over ANC National Chairperson, Gwede Mantashe’s arrest.
This after the publication claims Mantashe’s arrest was linked to alleged Bosasa-funding security upgrades at Mantashe’s Gauteng and Eastern Cape properties.
According to the ID, the publication did not release information about Mantashe’s “imminent arrest” and the comments in the report were not disclosed by the ID.
“The Investigating Directorate (ID) refers to an article in the Sunday World today, 16 June 2024, referencing the imminent arrest of Mr Gwede Mantashe. The ID does not comment on its investigations and it is important that a misstatement attributed to its office must be corrected.
The ID has not decided nor discussed “the imminent arrest” of Mr Mantashe.
It is unclear where these comments come from, but they are not from the ID.The ID will continue to do its work without fear, favour or prejudice and should be given the space to do so without any unnecessary and unwarranted speculations.”
Mantashe was found to have reportedly benefitted from Bosasa, accepting security upgrades to his private properties at no cost in exchange for securing Bosasa government contracts.
The state capture report, which was made public two years ago, found there is reasonable suspicion to investigate Mantashe’s deadlings with the company.
