The Gautrain Hatfield station, in Pretoria is without water and electricity after the City of Tshwane cut services. According to the city, Gautrain owes R10 million in unpaid bills.
Adding the Hatfield station, as well as the SARS offices to their latest defaulters list, the City of Tshwane said the last payment received from Gautrain was in 2020.
However, Gautrain said the disconnection is illegal and will be going to court to dispute the matter.
Gautrain claims the Hatfield facility operates using a pre-paid electricity meter and says its water bill is also up to date.
In a statement published to its social media account, the Gautrain says rates were also not applicable due to the property that the station is built on falling under public transport infrastructure.
Gautrain says the Hatfield station’s prepaid electricity meter has a credit of R120 000 and that attempts to contact the City of Tshwane were unsuccessful.
According to the Gautrain, a screengrab of the unpaid amount was sent instead of a detailed statement.
The City of Tshwane has been on a mission to recover R17 billion that is owed by businesses, residential home owners and government departments.
Last week, the city cut services to the Sheraton Hotel which reportedly owes R23 million.
The Hatfield station is currently running with the use of a generator and Gautrain says services are not affected.
