Frustrated Johannesburg residents are entering Week 2 with no water as JHB Water cites another power outage for the resulting dry taps.
Last week residents in Soweto, Roodepoort, and Randburg were hit with more excuses over the water outage after the utility said City Power was conducting emergency repairs to a feedboard at the Eikenhof substation after one of the isolaters experienced a “flash-over.”
The flash-over occurred at 20h00 on Monday night, 04 March, and affected the dedicated transformer supplying power to the Rand Water Board pump station.
While the repairs were reportedly completed on Tuesday night, 05 March, and residents in affected areas were informed that Rand Water was pumping at 100%, taps were still running dry on Wednesday, 06 March.
In the latest update from Rand Water, JHB south residents were since informed that it could take days for the system to fully recover in Linden, Blairgowrie, Quellerina, Bergbron, and other parts of Roodepoort, Randburg, and surrounding areas.
This after a power outage at the Palmiet pump station occurred on Sunday, 10 March leading to the pump station being offline for an hour and a half.

While the Palmiet pump station has been restored and is fully operational, a number of systems in Sandton, Central Region, and Deep South Region remain in a critically low state.
Councillors of wards in Linden, Northcliff, Florida Glen, Quellerina, and Bergbron have advised residents that they may not have water for the foreseeable future.
“The entire area (Northcliff Ext19, 15, 21 and 32, Florida Glen, Quellerina and Bergbron) will continue to have little to no supply for the foreseeable future.
This is in essence what was revealed this morning by Joburg Water.
The Waterval reservoir is interconnected with the Linden reservoir and tower, which has been without water for 9 days.
They are attempting to restore levels by augmenting the Waterval reservoir supply, which led to the outage since yesterday.
This will likely continue until they can figure out what has gone so terribly wrong at the Linden res and tower.”
