Eskom has confirmed a fire broke out at the Duvha Power Station in Mpumalanga on Monday, 13 June.
According to the power utility, the unit had been offline since the general overhaul in January 2022.
“The fire was quickly extinguished. Eskom is currently investigating the root cause of the fire and extend of damage.”

There is no indication when the unit will return to service.
No injuries nor casualties were reported in the incident.

Eskom confirmed the fire after videos of smoke billowing out of the power station were shared to social media.
In recent weeks, claims of sabotage and theft take centre stage at the power utility made headlines.
This after Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan spoke about issues of theft and sabotage putting further strain on the grid.
