The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have condemned the rape and murder of a party member’s daughter.
Mokalapa Sonia Madume, the daughter of Ekurhuleni fighter Portia Mokalapa was left home alone on Thursday.
When her mother couldn’t reach the 18-year old, she’d sent people over to check their home, and found no one inside but visible signs of a break-in.
On Saturday Portia still couldn’t reach her daughter on her cellphone and upon the mother’s return back home, discovered her daughter’s lifeless body was discovered stuffed in her bed.
According to the party, it is believed Mokalapa was raped and strangled.
In a statement, the EFF reiterated the devastating reality of gender-based violence in the country.
“We remain deeply troubled by the war waged against women by men. Women live and breathe at the mercy of blood thirsty men. As if that’s not enough, we are further subjected to an incompetent policing and justice system.
The scourge of rape and femicide have broken through the fabric of our society where criminals do as they please because they know the South African Police Service is incapacitated and has no political will to combat crime.”

The party says fighters have consistently called out the rising murder, rape and crime statistics due to the incompetence by SAPS.
Crime stats for the third quarter showed murder and rape had increased by 7.1% and 9% respectively.
