Multichoice has confirmed that Russia Today will no longer be available on the DStv platform.
The news channel 407, has since been removed until further notice.
In a brief statement, Multichoice said the reason for the removal of the channel was due to sanctions imposed on Russia by the European Union.
This meant the global distributor of the channel ceased to provide the broadcast feed to all suppliers including Multichoice.

Meanwhile the EFF has slammed the “censoring” of the Russian news channel on the DStv platform.
Releasing a statement the party said it condemns the removal of the channel as it undermines press freedom and rights of consumers who pay for the service.
“This is a classic move by imperialist aligned entities, who want to monopolise what people think and be the sole custodians of a narrative which requires balanced and fair reporting. Multichoice has basically declared that the only reliable international news outlets, are those aligned with NATO, such as CNN and the BBC,” the party shared.

The party went on to say that during the US and UK invasion of Iraq, CNN and BCC remained unaffected on DStv despite widespread international condemnation of the invasion.
