The 51-year old driver who crashed into former President Jacob Zuma’s vehicle on Thursday, 28 March is facing charges of drunk, as well as reckless and negligent driving.
Zuma survived thecar accident after one of the cars in his convoy was wrecked between Nkandla and Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal.
The accident occurred before 19h00 and neither Zuma now his security were injured.
Zuma was travelling in an armoured state vehicle when the driver collided with the convoy.
They also confirmed that the former president and his security were unharmed.
Samples of the 51-year old’s blood were taken for further testing, according to police as the investigations continue.
Zuma’s car crash comes shortly after the Electoral Commission omitted his newly formed uMkhonto We Sizwe Party (MK Party) from the ballot in the upcoming elections.
The IEC announced that due to his prison term, Zuma is not eligible to run for President.
Zuma was sentenced to 15-months in prison for contempt of court in 2021. Under the IEC regulations, a person who has served a sentence of more than a year is unable to serve as member of Parliament per Section 47 of the Constitution.
The former President served just 2-months of his 15-month jail term at the Escourt correctional facility, before being placed on medical parole.
