The cop accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend who was a nurse at Tembisa Hospital has been released on bail of R5000.
Thirty-year old Lebo Monene, who was on duty at the time, was shot and killed by her police officer boyfriend on 09 February.
Constable Lucky Mudau, then turned the gun on himself, which resulted in him now being a quadriplegic and confined to a wheelchair.
Monene’s family revealed that she was in a toxic and abusive relationship with Mudau, which was why she left the relationship and moved out of their home.
On the morning she was fatally shot in the carpark of Tembisa Hospital, Mudau called Monene to come outside.
Eyewitnesses say the pair were arguing before Mudau pulled out his weapon, fatally shooting his girlfriend. He then pulled the trigger on himself, resulting in a spinal cord injury.
Staff at the hospital and the nurse’s family were hoping that bail would have been denied for the cop accused of killing their loved one.
Nurses at Tembisa Hospital staged a picket after Monene’s murder, calling for more safety measures be put in place at the hospital.
Nursing union, Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DONESA) are calling on authorities to ensure Mudau faces the full might of the law.
Mudau is set to appear back in court on 21 September.
