The motion to oust Joburg mayor Mpho Phalatse has passed with 139 councillors voting in support.
The voting to remove her happened at the 9th Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting of the City of Johannesburg Municipality.
IFP has abstained & there were no NO votes, meaning she was removed unopposed.

Speaker Colleen Makhubela who was elected earlier this week has also announced that a new Mayor will be elected later today.
This follows newly elected speaker Colleen Makhubele’s decision to hold an extraordinary sitting where a motion of no confidence was tabled.

A multi-party coalition including the African National Congress (ANC) and Al Jama-ah said earlier this week that Phalatse is not fit to govern South Africa’s economic hub.
