Capitec services are disrupted due to the global IT outage which is affecting major banks, media, airports and airlines across various parts of the world.
On Friday, 19 July Capitec assured clients that while services are affected, their accounts remained secure.
Card payments and Capitec ATMS are working.
“Due to an unexpected issue with an international service provider, we are currently experiencing nationwide service disruptions.
Note: Card payments & Capitec ATMs are working & your account remains secure. We’re resolving the matter asap. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
While the disruption to Capitec services was initially believed to be the result of the Microsoft outage, the bank clarified that it was due to their technology service provider Crowdstrike.
“Capitec experienced significant disruptions across all our banking channels today due to a global downtime incident involving Crowdstrike, a key technology service provider. We recognise the inconvenience this has caused and wish to provide clarity and assurance to our valued clients.”
The Microsoft outage is a massive one affecting access to a number of Microsoft apps and services.
Microsoft says they are working on rerouting the impacted traffic to alternate systems to alleviate impact in a more expedient fashion.
It is unclear what caused the outage at Microsoft and there is at this stage no timeframe to the when the matter will be resolved.

The Microsoft outage has significantly impacted services at the London Stock Exchange, 911 services in the US, payment systems in Australia and other parts of the world.
A number of football clubs are also experiencing problems with online ticket sales, and delays at airports around the world have left thousands frustrated as flights are grounded because flight information cannot be displayed on screens.
Belfast International Airport made use of white boards to provide flight information.
