Calib Cassim has been appointed Interim CEO of Eskom with immediate effect.
Cassim, who was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the power utility in 2018, has been appointed Group CEO on the back of Andre de Ruyter’s abrupt exit.
De Ruyter who resigned in December last year, was meant to serve his term until the end of March 2023.
However, after his explosive interview on eNCA where he disclosed that Eskom is a feeding trough for the ANC, he was released from his role with immediate effect.
In his interview, de Ruyter dropped the bombshell that a “high-level” politician was involved in the rampant corruption that is at play at Eskom.
His replacement, Calib Cassim, has been with the state-owned entity from 2001, and was formerly the head of Eskom’s regulation department.
According to Eskom, Cassim is a Chartered Accountant, and holds a Masters Degree in Business Leadership.
“With over 20-years of service in Eskom, his qualifications and extensive experience have provided Mr Cassim with a deep understanding and appreciation of the Eskom business and electricity industry, especially regarding the challenges facing the financing of operations and future expansion of the industry.”
