Anti-apartheid stalwart Aziz Pahad has passed away at 82.
Aziz Pahad, a veteran struggle stalwart and expert in global affairs, has passed away at the age of 82 years old.
Pahad was the first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in democratic South Africa.
Pahad held the position of deputy minister of foreign affairs for 14 years before resigning in opposition to the reinstatement of Thabo Mbeki as president.
Pahad served as the national executive of the African National Congress (ANC) as well as the central committee of the South African Communist Party.

He was chosen as former president Jacob Zuma’s representative for the Middle East conflict in 2014.
ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula confirmed his passing and extended the African National Congress’s condolences to Pahad’s family.
