Dada Morero has been chosen as the new mayor of the City of Johannesburg on Friday without any opposition.
A total of 145 council members participated in the proceedings, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) declining to attend the day’s extraordinary session on Friday morning.
Mpho Phalatse had already been dismissed following a motion of no confidence.
In the high court, her last-ditch attempt to stop the motion from proceeding was also dismissed.
The City of Johannesburg is now under the control of the African National Congress (ANC).
