Afriforum has accused EFF leader Julius Malema of perjury for claiming neither him nor his party could afford to pay a R500K penalty and it all comes down to the cost of his Gucci wardrobe.
Malema is currently embroiled in a hate speech case lodged by the forum in 2020 over the party’s “Kiss The Boer” chants.
Accused of inciting violence against white farmers, Afriforum wants Julius Malema to cough up R500 000.
However, Malema stated in court this week that he simply does not have half a million Rands laying around to pay to anyone.
A claim that Afriforum’s attorneys say is false because Malema’s Gucci wardrobe says otherwise.
The lobby group estimates that Malema is worth a staggering $2 billion, saying that his designer wardrobe is proof of that.
Julius Malema could be charged with perjury if he’s found to be lying about the EFF’s financial status.
Testifying under oath means if the EFF’s bank accounts show that there is money, Malema would have committed a criminal offence prosecutable by law.
In February, Malema explained that neither he nor his party members sang shoot the boer, they did say shoot to kill.
He went on to say what they meant was to shoot anyone who stands in the way of the people and their freedom.
“We chanted, shoot to kill, kiss the boer, kiss the farmer,” Malema told the court.
Closing arguments were presented in court on Tuesday, 14 June.
