A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Limpopo in connection with a series of rapes and a murder, after allegedly using the dating app Tinder to lure his victims.
The suspect was apprehended during a joint operation conducted between Sunday and Monday morning in Mentz village.
Police believe the man is linked to more than ten cases of rape and a murder reported in the Eesterust policing area of Gauteng.
According to authorities, the suspect would lure women to his home in Pretoria.
The most recent and serious allegation is that he raped and murdered a woman, before burying her in a shallow grave at his residence.
Following the arrest, Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, issued a warning to the public. She urged community members, especially women, to exercise extreme caution when using dating sites to avoid becoming victims of crime.
The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort by various police units, including the Limpopo Tracking Team, the Limpopo Provincial Investigation Unit, and detectives from Silverton and Tshwane.
