Canadian singer and songwriter, The Weeknd has been named the world’s most popular artist by Guinness World Records.
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known professionally as the Weeknd, received the nod after Spotify data from prominent artists were analyzed.
The multi-award winning artist had the most monthly listeners on Spotify with 111.4 million and is also the first artist to reach 100 million listeners.
America artist Miley Cyrus follows closely behind with 82.4 million monthly listens, but the Weeknd is by far the most popular artist of his time.
The Blinding Lights hitmaker recently won Juno Awards for Single of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.
The 33-year old’s latest track with Metro Boomin, Diddy, & 21 Savage, Creepin, has spent the last 10 weeks in the Top 10 of the Hot 100.
In March, The Weeknd made history, joining Michael Jackson as the only other male soloist to achieve multiple No.1 hits from three different albums.
Jackson, the late King of Pop nabbed several No.1 songs from 1979’s Off The Wall, 1982’s Thriller and 1987’s Bad.
The Weeknd did the same with his 2015 album Beauty Behind The Madness, Starboy in 2016 and After Hours in 2020.
