SAMA Awards announce nominees and Kwa-Zulu Natal as host province

Zuko Komisa

SAMA Awards announce nominees and Kwa-Zulu Natal as the host province.

The nominations for the most prestigious music awards were unveiled this morning at Jabulani’s Soweto Theatre.

Over 29 years, the annual awards ceremony celebrates the country’s finest music talent over two days in key categories, as they battle for the South African industry’s highest honor – a statuette at the South African Music Awards

The awards will be held for two nights at the Durban ICC on November 17 and 18, rather than their traditional home in Sun City.

During this year’s nominee announcement, it was also confirmed that the South African Music Awards will be based in KwaZulu-Natal for the next three years.

With seven nominations for his posthumous album Mass Country, late rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, leads the pack at the 29th annual SA Music Awards (Samas).

AKA was shot and killed outside of a restaurant in Durban earlier this year. There have been no arrests made for his murder.

The nomination announcement was streamed on Tuesday on Youtube.

Risa CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi commended this year’s crop of artists for their artistry, resilience, and tenacity.

“We are proud to present the class of Sama29 who over a 14-month period put out some of the best tunes, collaborations and music videos in the country,”

“We commend their artistry, resilience and tenacity that have led to them rising to the top and positioning themselves to be in line for the highest music accolade SA can bestow on an artist. We wish them well as we embark on the road to Sama29 in KwaZulu-Natal.” said Risa CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi.
