South African music legend Ringo Madlingozi is set to make his musical comeback after taking a break to focus on his career in politics.
In 2014, Madlingozi was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa as a member of the EFF.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the musician said he believes “it’s time to come back and give the people what they love, which is music that heals.”
In the past few months, Madlingozi has made significant lifestyle changes.
“Ringo back then was younger and not knowledgeable about life. Now I understand that not everything should be taken too seriously, and I should appreciate the smallest things and the positivity of life being on the news that hurt me. But I realised I’ve got a choice to move on,” as quoted by the publication.
“I am aware of every moment. I’ve been drinking and having fun but now to be totally aware, here and now, makes me wonder why I thought there wouldn’t be fun without drinking, but I was telling myself a lie.”
Ringo Madlingozi started his music career in the early 1980s and rose to fame in 1986 when he and his band Peto won the Shell Road to Fame contest. He later formed a group called Gecko Moon with Alan Cameron, a fellow Peto member.
Madlingozi has released nine studio albums and won numerous awards, including the South African Music Award for Male Artist of the Year.
