South African music icon Zola 7, real name Bonginkosi Dlamini, has released the official music video for his latest single, “Imbube” generating a wave of excitement and nostalgia among fans.
The release signifies a powerful resurgence for the artist, whose impact on South African culture extends far beyond his musical contributions.
The “Imbube” video, which features rising talent discovered by Zola 7, Berut, and Pretty Masompisi, has quickly gained traction online, with many praising its authentic portrayal of township life and its infectious energy.
“Imbube“ was inspired by Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s “Mbube” released in 1994.
The song itself blends contemporary sounds with the classic Kwaito vibe that Zola 7 helped popularise in the late 1990s and early 2000s. When the song released earlier this year, it went viral on TikTok through the #MbubeChallenge.
