Miss Mexico 2021 organisers went ahead with the pageant despite 14 of the 32 contestants testing positive for COVID-19.
Many of the contestants were coughing, had body aches and high temperatures and were told not to complain. The contestants made an appearance at a school where they delivered supplies and posed with the students.

Pageant organisers are coming under fire for claiming that all contestants had to submit a negative test result before the pageant. State Health Secretary Eduardo Fernández Herrera told the media that they received an anonymous tip that one person was sick and infected.
After tests were conducted almost half of the contestants were found to be COVID-19 positive, including one pageant staff member.
The pageant was pushed up by two days with no explanations given and the organisers have not commented. The outbreak comes as COVID-19 cases spike in Mexico, where the country has taken a less than strict approach to lockdowns, closing off borders and mask-wearing.
