Mandla Mandela has called for newly crowned Miss SA 2021, Lalela Mswane to boycott the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Israel.
Since the pageant’s location was announced in July, many pro-Palestine voices have called for South Africa to snub the event.
Many are awaiting an announcement by the Miss SA organisation regarding participation.
The question is how will South Africans respond to representation at the 70th pageant being held in Israel? Due to the country’s stance against apartheid and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza.
Now, the grandson of the late Nelson Mandela is calling for a global boycott of the Miss Universe pageant in Israel.
Taking to his social media Mandla Mandela called for South Africa to withdraw all support towards the Miss Universe pageant.
“There is nothing beautiful about occupation, brutality and institutionalised discrimination against the Palestinian people.”
Mandla has made his stance on Israel clear comparing the occupation of Palestine to apartheid South Africa.
