A 36-year old man has been arrested for allegedly smashing windows at the Constitutional Court.
The suspect was found using a hammer to smash windows and doors at the court on Wednesday.
This comes after the controversy around the Parliament fire and the release of the Zondo Commission’s State Capture report.
At first glance it looks like bullet holes through a number of windows at the ConCourt. However, police found the man smashing the windows with a hammer when they got there.
A warning shot was fired to stop the man who refused to stop smashing the windows.
He has been apprehended and will appear in court on charges which include malicious damage to property.
The motive behind the vandalising attempt is yet to be established. The incident has been condemned by a collective of legal experts in SA, Judges Matter.
Describing the attack as “outrageous”, the collective hopes prosecution will occur swiftly following the arrest.
