Social media users have accused Makhadzi and her team of misusing the police. They made the claims after the musician shared a picture of herself surrounded by police officers.
“[This] past weekend I was protected by 20 police … my car, my hotel was protected,” she wrote. The ‘Ghanama’ hitmaker says she spoke to one of the officers about their presence.
“I had a chance to ask one police and her answer was like, we were told that you are coming and more than 5 police were supposed to be not on duty, but because it’s you they volunteered to come see and protect you. Northern Cape loves you MAKHADZI,” Makhadzi wrote.

One fan joked that Makhadzi’s VIP status is equivalent to that of the President of Botswana. But scores of people took to the comments section to slam the huge police presence.
“We love you. But it’s not the police’s duty to be your private security guard or protection services,” a Facebook user name Choushi Choshi wrote.
The user added that the police watchdog, IPID, must investigate the officers’ conduct.
“Police should fight crime, hijacking, rape, murder, abuse of women, children, and elders, robbery, illegal firearms, and drugs, and arrest the tsotsis….not protecting you… Aowa sesi aka. They should volunteer to fight the crime they are trained to do.”
Afro-pop and house artist, Sandy B, also shared his views. He says a private security team should have been employed.
“You are a business, music is business and businesses get private securities. I love you, your music, and energy but that [needs] to be rectified. Give some bouncers work and let those police go on and protect the public. Just a tip from a fellow musician,” Sandy B

Some Facebook users pointed out that Makhadzi recently signed a R120 million deal called Kokovha with Kicks Sportswear.
They say the deal is proof that she can afford her own security team.
“Get your own securities if you’re not pretending to be signing R120m deal, those are public safety officers, their duty is to protect the community from criminals, not you alone,” Facebook user, Vee Rsa II, wrote.
