This morning, Sizwe Dhlomo kicked off the 7 o’clock hour by revealing that he suspects he might have a psychological issue.
“I never thought this was a problem, but I’ve started paying attention to it. I hate wasting things. When I was young, my mum would always say, ‘If I dish up for you, you must finish your plate.’ That stuck with me,” he shared.
“Even now, as an adult, I can’t stand leaving food uneaten. Whether I’m at a restaurant or taking leftovers home, I can’t waste food. It genuinely pains me to see food go to waste.”
His co-host, Sol Phenduka, chimed in, saying he also dislikes seeing leftover food—but for different reasons. “It’s not about wasting for me; I just really love food,” Sol admitted.
Sizwe added that this mindset extends beyond food. “It’s not just about meals. I keep things like an old TV remote, for example. It’s not necessarily hoarding; I just prefer reusing things.”
Reflecting on the possible origins of this behaviour, Sizwe said, “They say your psychological disposition often stems from some form of trauma. But there wasn’t much trauma in my home growing up.”
