During a recent heartfelt conversation on Pasi Koetle’s Mommy Diaries podcast, actress Mo Setumo opened up about why she waited nearly four years to reveal that she is a mother.
The actress first shared images from her maternity shoot in January this year, surprising many fans. She explained to Pasi that her silence during her pregnancy was deeply tied to the loss of her mother.
“If I hadn’t lost my mum before the pregnancy, I would have never posted anything. I was going through the most difficult time—I wasn’t even thinking of saying, ‘Dumelang guys, I am a mother now,’” she shared.
“I didn’t get the chance to celebrate being a mother. It was survival of the fittest. There was just so much going on. I was still grieving my mum.”
The 33-year-old revealed that her daughter, Onkarabile, was born prematurely. “Then my body betrayed me because my daughter was actually premature. She came at eight months. I didn’t have time to celebrate and bask in this beautiful answered prayer. I didn’t have time to fully embrace being a mother back then,” she said.
It wasn’t until two years later that Mo began to fully enjoy motherhood. “I started enjoying it when she was around two. My mental health had improved, and things started clearing up. Just like my mum and I, Onkarabile is my handbag—she just loves me,” she said.
