Anonymous claims her mother in law rejected her
Katlego Sekhu

A listener shares that her mother-in-law never welcomed her or made any effort to make her feel part of the family. In recent months, the mother-in-law has fallen seriously ill and now expects her to provide care.
Although she harbours no hatred, she feels it is unfair to be expected to take on this responsibility given the treatment she received.
Reaching out to The Best T in the City with Tbose, Anonymous wonders if there are any blind spots she may be overlooking.
“My husband paid lobola for me last year, but before that we had been dating for 5 years. During those 5years, my mother-in-law made it very clear that she never liked me. She even treated my child differently from the other grandchildren.
“In April, she started falling sick. At first, we all thought it wasn’t serious, but her health hasn’t improved. Recently, my husband and his siblings had a meeting to discuss how best to care for her, since their cousin has been helping up until now. The agreement was that she would spend one month with my brother-in-law and his wife, and the next month with us.
“But my mother-in-law herself made it very clear that she wants me to take care of her. I don’t work, so practically I could do it. But I’m struggling with her request. This is a woman who has always disliked me and who didn’t even want to do my welcoming ceremony, the uncles had to force her. Now suddenly she wants me to be the one looking after her.
“My husband says this could be her way of trying to mend and bond with me, and maybe that she’s finally realising she was wrong. But I can’t shake off the feeling that something isn’t right. Am I overthinking? Should I forget the past and step up to take care of her? Or could she have another motive that I’m not seeing? What could be my blind spot here?”
