Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has confirmed his suspension from cricket following a failed drug test, revealing that he returned to South Africa from the Indian Premier League after testing positive for a recreational drug.
In a public statement, Rabada expressed deep remorse over the incident.
“As has been reported, I recently returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons,” the statement began. “This was due to my returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug.”
The 29-year-old admitted fault and extended an apology to his supporters, team, and the cricket community.
“I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down,” he said. “I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.”
While the suspension comes as a major setback, Rabada remains determined to rebuild.
“Moving forward, this moment will not define me,” he stated. “I will keep doing what I have always done — continuously working hard and playing with passion and devotion to my craft.”
As one of South Africa’s premier cricketers, Rabada has long been a central figure in the national side.
On Monday, Siz The World reflected on this incident and invited fans to weigh in.
