On Siz The World, the team recently held a discussion on status symbols. Status symbols are defined as objects, behaviours, or traits that indicate a person’s social or economic standing within society.
They often reflect wealth, power, prestige, or cultural capital. People use these symbols to communicate their identity or position in relation to others.
The team invited listeners to contribute to the discussion, asking whether status symbols are important to them.
Sol Phenduka mentioned that he isn’t too concerned with things like cars, material possessions, or clothes. “I’m not really fixated on material things. But tech, definitely,” he said.
Mpho Maboi was more outspoken in her views, sharing her passion for cars.
“For me, it depends, but when it comes to cars, yes, definitely. There are certain cars I will not drive, and there are certain cars I will not test. Why should I pretend to aspire to something I don’t? Even people who follow me for car reviews know what kind of cars I aspire to.”
