The suspended CEO of the Independent Development Trust (IDT), Tebogo Malaka, and the entity’s spokesperson, Phasha Makgolane, have been implicated in a brazen attempt to bribe a journalist.
Daily Maverick has released exclusive video and audio footage allegedly showing the pair offering investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh R60 000 in cash to stop an ongoing investigation.

The alleged incident took place during a meeting on Sunday, 3 August, at a Stellenbosch wine farm.
The Daily Maverick report claims that Malaka and Makgolane presented the money and promised further rewards if the journalist ceased his probe.
The investigation is believed to be focused on an IDT contract linked to one of Malaka’s high-end properties.
The IDT spokesperson had reportedly previously suggested that Malaka was willing to “settle” the matter with a cash payment.
