A severe storm has hit parts of Randfontein in western Gauteng and extensive damage has been reported.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., the tornado struck the Umphakathi Mall, where the injured were present. They were mostly Boxer supermarket consumers with minor injuries. Toekomsrus, Mohlakeng, and Randfontein were all struck by the tornado.
Point of View spoke to Rand West City Mayor, William Matsheke on efforts to assists residents.

The SA Weather Service has issued many warnings as the stormy season has officially arrived in Gauteng, bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds. The full impact of this inclement weather was felt on Wednesday in Gauteng’s West Rand after what appeared to be a tornado tore through parts of Randfontein.

At least 24 people were hurt, and 620 dwellings were destroyed, according to sources. The roof was destroyed as a tornado tore through portions of the Mohlakeng mall.
