Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, John Steenhuisen is hopeful the Multi-Party Charter he is masterminding will rebuild South Africa.
Steenhuisen closed the Multi-Party National Convention in Kempton Park, Johannesburg on Thursday, 17 August, saying this is the only way to unseat the ANC.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to DA Leader John Steenhuisen about the 2-day Multi-Party Charter for South Africa Conference where opposition parties discussed power sharing, cabinet redesign, and principles.

The Charter, which was dubbed “the Moonshot Pact”, includes 7 parties, and other smaller parties, all merging to unseat the ANC, keep the EFF out of power, and provide an alternative government for South Africa in 2024.
Our mission is to unseat the ANC, keep out the EFF, and usher in a multi-party government following the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. #Charter24 pic.twitter.com/7XzBhJ7Lno

Steenhuisen who first pitched the idea in April, said it is an unprecedented and historic approach to saving South Africa, and the agreement between the parties is officially in place.
“When I first announced the DA’s commitment to this project back in April, there were many naysayers who said that this group of parties would never even reach the point of sitting around the same table.
And yet, here we are signing a historic and unprecedented agreement to rescue South Africa.
Today, without any, doubt:
This agreement has brought hope back to South Africa.”

The seven parties, apart from the DA include:
- Inkatha Freedom Party
- Freedom Front Plus
- ActionSA
- National Freedom Party
- United Independent Movement
- Spectrum National Party
Steenhuisen said South Africa is on a downward trajectory, and the only way to resolve issues such as poverty, youth unemployment, better education, the electricity crisis, crime, and corruption is to remove the ANC from the government.
