Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Solly Msimanga about some of the changes the political party will be bringing should they win the election and govern in the Gauteng province.
In September 2023, the DA leader of Gauteng Solly Msimanga was unveiled as the premier candidate of the Democratic Alliance (DA) for the 2024 province and national elections.
Msimanga is biting into the cherry for the second time. The previous Gauteng premier David Makhura defeated the former mayor of the capital city Tshwane in the 2019 premiership. He spoke on various issues that affect residents of Gauteng while outlining the DA’s policy.
“We are patriotic South Africans, we do value the South African flag, and we do value the South African dream of 1994, which has now been turned into a nightmare 30 years into democracy, we have seen more unemployment than ever before, we are seeing infrastructure that is falling apart and crime that is out of control.”
Msimanga blamed political parties for attempting to bully them in various municipalities as one of the reasons there are occasional squabbles when co-governing in certain municipalities.
“If there’s one thing I can guarantee is that if the DA says it will do something, it will do it. If we say we are not going to do it best believe we are not going to do it. We will go into a meeting and say we will agree on this and not on that, but sometime we have seen political parties who are our partners who would want to bully us by leaking things into the media and saying that we want to do this but the DA doesn’t want to do it.”
“The DA has been very clear even before the October killings that there needs to be a round table where a two-state solution is proposed, we have been clear for years. We have been very clear that we are not going to promote or condone any killing of innocent people. That has been the stance of the DA.
