NSFAS to investigate complaint over new banking system
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has said it will make an effort to address problems with a new direct banking system that has caused students to become irritated due to hefty bank fees and postponed payments.
The banking system has also sparked protests at institutions of higher learning such as the Tshwane University of Technology.
Point of View spoke to NSFAS Spokesperson Slumezi Skosana about their new direct banking system which has received a lot of backlash from students.
She was also joined by TUT SRC President Keamogetswe Masike.

Masike, says their protest at the Tshwane University of Technology will continue until the issues with the system are addressed.
NSFAS Spokesperson Slumezi Skosana in response to complaints and outrage from students regarding a new direct banking system, said they will be meeting with student organizations and service providers.
He also explained why it was important to introduce the new direct payment method.
“We introduced the model of direct student payment for issues of accountably, and being able to give students their allowances in a timely fashion. Accountability in a sense that before, we would send money to an institution of higher learning so that funds are dispersed to the student.”
“What we were finding difficult is that we would see flaring up of protest on campus and people would tell us that there are protest on campus because students had not received their allowances.” said Skosana,
