Novo Nordisk tackles obesity crisis, boosts insulin access in South Africa

Pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk is launching a comprehensive campaign in South Africa to combat the rising tide of obesity and its related illnesses.
The initiative, focused on both education and improved access to treatment, aims to bridge the glaring healthcare gap impacting nearly half the country’s population.
The campaign is a collaborative effort, seeing Novo Nordisk partner with the South African Ministry of Health and various non-profit organisations (NPOs).
A cornerstone of this initiative is the groundbreaking rollout of insulin pens in public hospitals, a critical step forward in making essential diabetes management more accessible to a wider segment of the population.

Leping stated that the introduction of insulin pens in public health facilities is expected to be a game-changer for many patients, offering a more convenient and often safer method of insulin delivery compared to traditional vials and syringes.
