Gauteng education MEC assures parents that all children will be placed in school.
Matome Chiloane, the MEC for Education in Gauteng, has reassured parents that all of the opening-day spots for primary and secondary school for their children will be filled.
According to the Department a total of 268 192 students in grades one through eight, whose parents applied using the Gauteng department of education’s online admissions system, was successfully placed by November.
Point of View with Phemlo Motene spoke to Matome Chiloane, MEC for Education in Gauteng, about the preparation being made by the department for this schooling year in the province.

On in-migration
“The in-migration is something we have been having for a couple of years, as you know in the world urban centres are growing and Gauteng is no exception, we have been having this for a while, we have about 120 000 learners from outside our province. That has been consistent for the last couple of years…”

On parents who haven’t had their children placed
“We are aware that some parents have not yet had their children placed in schools but we want to ensure that their children will be in school. We are working around the clock to ensure that those children are placed,” Chiloane told journalists at Hoërskool Jeugland in Kempton Park on Tuesday 10 January.
