Energy Expert Adil Nchabeleng explains the crucial importance of fixing Eskom.
Stage 4 loadshedding will be imposed from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday, according to an announcement made on Friday by state-owned power utility Eskom.
The South African Weather Services predicts that the extremely chilly weather will last throughout the weekend.
The South African energy crisis or Loadshedding is an ongoing period of widespread national blackouts of electricity supply. It began in the later months of 2007, and continues to the present.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Energy Expert Adil Nchabeleng who unpacked the crucial importance of fixing power utility Eskom.

Eskom can be fixed in three months
Nchabeleng says he believes loadshedding can be fixed in a short period of time if the decision-makers are determined to do so.
“It has already been proven that this thing can be solved in 3 months, we have already improved by over 10% in the last month alone. The utility’s capacity is at 60% of it operating availability factor.”
“…If theer was a will from the political leadership this thing would be solved, power station can be fixed and should be fixed within 3 months, ensuring there is retaining and operability to make sure there is no longer loadshedding.” says Nchabeleng
We need to fix plants that are out
“This is not saying we must fix the whole of Eskom, it’s about fixing the plants that are out, and some of them are out on the basis that they are not given permission by the environmental affairs to operate. Those issues are not technical issues, but are departmental and require political will.” says Nchabeleng
