The charges were presented at the Cape Town Central Police Station in the Western Cape by DA leader John Steenhuisen and national spokesperson Solly Malatsi.

Speaking outside the police station DA leader John Steenhuisen blamed President Cyril Ramaphosa for not keeping his promises of conducting lifestyle audits of his cabinet as the cause for rampant corruption. He further reiterated the seriousness of the accusations and called on Ramaphosa to fire Mashatile.
“At the beginning of his term he [President Cyril Ramaphosa] promised the nation and parliament that every member of his executive will be subjected to lifestyle audits. These lifestyle audits would require ministers to disclose why they can live in mansions, drive fancy cars, and live a billionaire lifestyle and their salaries don’t match that.”
